JULY 6 RACE
The final 2023 Elmore triathlon may have broken air and water temperature records at 85 and 82 respectively. We definitely set a participation record with 38 completing the triathlon, 1 relay team and 2 each in the aquathlon and aquabike. The heat and humidity on a busy July 4th week resulted in many water based spectators who nicely agreed to stay out of the swimmers’ way. Unfortunately extra cars on the bike course caused many to stop and wait for a safe turnaround–thank you to everyone for staying safe! It was definitely the busiest day on the road and at the park that I’ve seen. Lance Parker completed his sweep of the 2023 series, followed by Sean McLoughlin and new to Elmore, John Basa. Amy Tomasso won her 2nd Elmore of the season with the next 5 women tightly packed between 1:00:17 and 1:02:57. 11 year old Atticus Bailey took nearly 3 minutes off of his 2022 Aquathlon time. Congratulations to all, including several more 1st time triathletes!
Participants, volunteers and support crews enjoyed Pizza from The Elmore Store at the fun picnic after the event.
Once again, thank you very much to the volunteers: Sigh and Sally Searles, Dot Helling, Amy Sparks, Chris Andresen, Eric Ryea, and Katrina Antonovich for making everything go so smoothly and safely! I have trouble keeping track of everything going on, but they made registration and timing all end up flawless!
JUNE 22 RACE
What a difference 2 weeks makes! Triathletes and volunteers were treated to sunshine, calm water, and both air and water temperatures in the mid 70’s. Times reflected improved conditions with race times dropping from 1 to 6+ minutes for those who raced both June 8th and the 22nd. Lance Parker finished 4 minutes ahead of 2nd place Sean McLoughlin and Ezra Merrill-Triplet 3 minutes later. A tight women’s race developed with Alice McCormick and Deb Vogl breaking the 1 hour mark, followed by Doreen Audette, just missing that mark, and Jill Sarazen just a minute later. Congratulations to all, including several 1st time triathletes!
Once again, thank you very much to the volunteers: Sigh and Sally Searles, Dot Helling, Amy Sparks, John Martin, and Eric Ryea for making everything go so smoothly and safely!
JUNE 8 RACE
The start of the 2023 season was a good test of triathletes’ grit as they braved 62 degree water then 53 degree rain with big puddles the length of the bike course. Despite the weather, there was a sell out crowd and many 1st time triathlon finishers. Lance Parker was 1st across the line due to his strong bike split, quickly followed by Thorin Markison. Amy Tomasso crossed 1st for women, followed quickly by Emma Duffany and Doreen Audette. Isabel Senesac was our youngest finisher at the age of 12 doing her 1st full tri. She is tough!
